Tracking device FAQ's

How do you know how far my vehicle travels?

Every month Hollard receives a report of the kilometres travelled by your vehicle from Tracker. Using GPS technology the kilometres are automatically tracked by the unit in your vehicle. There is no need for you to keep manual records of the mileage driven.

Who installs the Tracker SkyTrax unit?

As a Pay As You Drive policyholder, Tracker installs your Tracker SkyTrax unit without charging an initial fee. They are the official national supplier of the Skytrax tracking units.

What area does my tracking unit cover?

Everywhere in South Africa - and where there is GSM network coverage.

What happens to my Tracker Skytrax contract if my vehicle is a write-off or it is stolen and not recovered?

in the event that the vehicle is stolen and not recovered, Tracker will cancel the remaining period of the contract.

In the event that the vehicle is written off stemming from a Hollard Insurance decision, Hollard will pay for the termination of the Tracker contract unless we are able to recover the unit and transfer it to your replacement vehicle.

Will the assist button place me at risk?

Vehicle hijackings are potentially violent. If selected, an assistance button is fitted in a position where you feel it is the safest. Most tracking companies do not offer assist buttons due to lack of technical capabilities.

PLEASE NOTE: The standard R135 per month Pay As You Drive Skytrax Recover option does not include the assist button service.

What happens to my tracking device if I sell my vehicle?

The Tracker SkyTrax unit can be transferred to your new vehicle. A fee for the transfer will be levied. Should the person purchasing your vehicle wish to make use of the Skytrax product, a new contract with that person would be signed.

Can my tracking unit guarantee the recovery of my vehicle?

With the technology and criminal intelligence that are used in the Skytrax product, you have the best chance of having your stolen or hijacked vehicle recovered within the first hour. Certain circumstances such as communication network coverage are beyond Tracker's control. This makes it impossible for us to guarantee the recovery of your vehicle.

Who installs my tracking device?

An approved fitment centre will do all installations. All fitment agents are security checked and regularly undergo polygraph tests to ensure maximum security. An option for a Tracker installer to come to your premises is available to you as well.

What happens if I already have an existing Tracker SkyTrax unit in my vehicle?

Congratulations! All this means is that we will link your SkyTrax device to your new Pay As You Drive policy and you may even end up paying less than you were before you took out a policy with us.

What happens if I have a tracking device in my car that is not Skytrax?

If you have an existing tracking and recovery device in your car, you can continue to use this service. In order to monitor mileage and driver behaviour on a monthly basis, Pay As You Drive needs you to fit a Tracker Skytrax device in your vehicle .

You can elect to keep the existing unit or, assuming the existing unit is out of contract, cancel your subscription with the tracking company and only make use of the Skytrax unit.

Regrettably, very few tracking devices posess the functionality required by Pay As You Drive to transmit all the data we require to effectively manage our risk pool. This is one reason we have associated our product with the Skytrax unit.
